With AIPS, SEPA and soon the instant payment system, payments are becoming increasingly simpler, faster and cheaper. According to data from the Bank of Albania, the amount of payments in euros made with the AIPS system hit a new record in October.

The number of payments made domestically with the AIPS EURO system reached 323 thousand at the end of the ten-month period. The figures show that October turned out to have marked a record, especially in terms of the amount of payments in euros, which reached 636 million, while the number of transactions was 38 thousand.

If we compare it with the period January-October 2024, the number of payments made with AIPS EURO has increased by 22%, while their amount also results in an increase of 21%. In total, the amount of transactions made with AIPS reached 5.1 billion euros in January-October 2025.

After a decline in August, AIPS appears to have recovered in the following months.

Since its launch in 2022, AIPS Euro has provided significant savings for Albanian citizens. With the national AIPS Euro system, several ceiling commissions were set for national transfers in euros, significantly reducing the costs for citizens in making payments in euros within the country. The operation of the AIPS Euro payment system saved businesses and citizens over 37 million euros in 2023. By the end of 2024, the savings were estimated at approximately 100 million euros.

The Albanian Interbank Payments System (AIPS) is used by banks to transfer large amounts of money to each other in real time.

AIPS-EURO is used by the government to repay external debt, by large businesses to settle very high-value invoices, and by banks themselves. However, AIPS also indirectly speeds up transactions for citizens, especially when large sums of money are involved.
