Digitalization of agriculture/AZHBR: The European LPIS system is put into operation!

The Agricultural and Rural Development Agency (AZHBR) is rapidly continuing the process of digitalizing the agricultural sector, by establishing and putting into operation the Land Parcel Identification System (LPIS), a key mechanism for the transparent and efficient management of European Union funds.
The Director of AZHBR, Ardita Kuçi, said that the LPIS is based on satellite imagery and advanced EU standards.
"This system represents an important step towards modernizing the administration of support schemes for Albanian farmers. This system will facilitate online applications for subsidies, reducing bureaucracy and increasing the accuracy in verifying data on agricultural areas," she added.
Thanks to new technology, monitoring of agricultural plots will be carried out in an automated and continuous manner, which is expected to significantly increase transparency and accelerate the process of distributing funds to farmers.
At the same time, the LPIS will help Albanian institutions meet the technical and administrative conditions required within the framework of the European integration process.
"The implementation of this system constitutes an essential element for compliance with the EU's common agricultural policies and marks an important step towards increasing the efficiency of services to farmers. The digitalization of the agricultural sector is considered one of the main priorities on Albania's path towards membership in the European Union," said Kuçi.
With the operation of the LPIS, farmers will have a simpler, faster and more secure process for receiving financial support, while the country benefits from a modern system that ensures fair and sustainable administration of agricultural funds.
This year, 70,000 farmers nationwide have applied for eight support measures in the national agricultural support scheme.
