Emergency intervention at the Milot Bridge - Tender for the works opens, will last 8 weeks from the signing of the contract
With a limit fund of 107.6 million lekë, the Albanian Road Authority has opened the tender for emergency interventions in the Milot Bridge over the Mat River. The opening of the public procurement procedure comes after the closure of vehicle traffic, due to the condition of its foundations. According to the technical report prepared in cooperation with the Polytechnic University of Tirana, the bridge's supporting piles have been exposed and corroded by 3 - 5 meters, due to erosion and uncontrolled use of the riverbed.
The intended contract includes concreting and protecting the piles, placing interlocking blocks (gabions) to stabilize the bed, and clearing and leveling the area around the foundations. These measures are expected to extend the life of the bridge by at least 5 to 10 years.
The Albanian Road Authority announces that after the completion of the procurement procedure, the works will begin immediately, considering that the intervention is classified as emergency. Meanwhile, according to the works schedule, the intervention is expected to require 8 weeks.
The Milot Bridge is located on the Milot - Lezhë road axis and is a key node on this national axis. The project for its construction is dated 24.04.1979.
