The helicopter air base in Farka near Tirana is expected to be modernized. The Ministry of Defense has opened the tender for the construction of the main squares and the directions of take-off and landing, connecting roads, parking areas for helicopters, as well as the lighting system. The limit fund is about ALL 706.4 million and the works are expected to last for a period of 1 year.
The air base is located in the territory of the Municipality of Tirana, while the topographical process was carried out on the basis of the general and specific technical requirements foreseen and consists in surveying the area where the facility is located.
Albania has significantly increased investments in the defense sector, where for the first time this year funds have been allocated that reach the level of 2% of the Gross Domestic Product. The projections are for this increase to be annual, where within 10 years it is intended to reach the level of 2.8% of the Gross Domestic Product. Investments are in several directions; in the renovation of military bases, the construction of new bases, investments in technology and especially investments in human resources.
The plan is that within a few years Albania will have an army and defense system similar to that of NATO and that responds to any challenge that may arise for the national security of our country.
Referring to the draft budget, a fund of 570 million ALL is planned for the next year alone for the completion of the air force with UH-60 "Blackhawk" helicopters.
