Pensions, what is the government's plan for the scheme? - Malaj: We are waiting for the final formula, we can intervene in the budget
The MPs of the Parliamentary Economy Committee have requested to review the funds for social protection and specifically for the pension scheme in the 2025 budget, with the argument that the support is insufficient for this category. In response to this request, the Minister of Finance stated that despite the fact that no initial funds have been provided for increasing pensions, there may be a budget review throughout the year.
"Pensions are insufficient to cope with the daily living situation of the elderly. Aid is worse than that. Economic assistance, unemployment payment, drug reimbursement scheme for the chronically ill. Inadequacy and targeting those who do not exist, can you see the possibility of changes in these policies, to change and the inadequacy and effectiveness to go to those who deserve this money".
"The draft budget of 2025 does not address the actions that the Albanian government is taking in relation to the final scheme of pensions or bonuses that are planned to be given, we are still in the process, at the moment we will have the final formula, the budget of 2025 may also be subject to revision depending of the performance we will have because we are also undertaking the anti-information campaign".
Likewise, the low funding for the agricultural sector was another concern raised by the deputies, and in this case an increase in the budget was requested. But for the Minister of Finance, agriculture is among the most financed sectors.
"Agriculture should go hand in hand with the development of tourism, especially since the country is blessed with the opportunities it has, either with production or fishing, and for this reason the budget for agriculture is very low, even more so with the problems it has had."
"Let's stop at the agricultural sector. We have made an assessment of the entire sector in the last 10 years and it turns out that agriculture is the sector that has been financed more than all other sectors. If in 2013 it was 47 million euros, now it is 150 million euros, with an increase of 160%. If we look at what other direct benefits there are, the other benefits that agriculture receives are 5 billion ALL, from reduced tax rates according to the analysis made by the Ministry of Finance".
The MPs also asked to review the structure of the economy, not relying on two sectors such as construction and tourism, and to direct foreign investments in this approach.
