Minister Salla meets EC official: Modernization of agriculture a priority for EU membership
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Andis Salla, hosted today in a working meeting the Director for the Western Balkans at the Directorate-General for Enlargement and Eastern Neighborhood at the European Commission, Ms. Valentina Superti.
At the center of the discussions were the progress achieved and the challenges that accompany the Ministry's preparations for the opening of intergovernmental negotiations and approximation with the European Union acquis.
Minister Salla emphasized that after the approval of the Negotiating Position for Cluster 5 "Resources, Agriculture and Cohesion", Albania is at a crucial stage in the European integration process.
Minister Salla underlined that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is intensively pursuing the fulfillment of all obligations through the consolidation of integrated management systems (IACS, LPIS, REM), strengthening technical and administrative capacities, as well as preparing for an effective access to EU funds.
"The modernisation of agriculture and the building of a competitive and sustainable sector remains one of the strategic priorities of the Albanian government within the framework of the EU accession process," underlined Minister Salla.
Ms. Superti praised the progress made by Albania in this regard and emphasized the European Commission's support for further advancing reforms in the agriculture and rural development sector.
