Minister Salla meets with World Bank representatives on the progress of the CRAD project

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Andis Salla, held a working meeting today with Mr. Sameh Naguib Wahba, Regional Director of the Planet Practice at the World Bank, as well as with its technical team, within the framework of the "Climate Resilience and Agricultural Development" (CRAD) project.
Minister Salla praised the 33-year cooperation between Albania and the World Bank, emphasizing the institution's continued contribution to supporting reforms and sustainable development of the agricultural sector.
The Minister underlined the strategic importance of the CRAD project, especially in terms of smart agriculture, strengthening laboratory capacities and developing the olive cluster.
The progress made towards the establishment of the “Berati 2400 Years” olive oil consortium was appreciated, an initiative funded by the Albanian Government and technically supported by the World Bank. The consortium aims to unite 50 farmers and other actors of the value chain for the production and marketing of olive oil with the “Made in Berat” brand, creating a sustainable Albanian brand for domestic and international markets.
In addition to Berat, five other municipalities, Fier, Gjirokastër, Elbasan, Lezhë and Vlorë, have been selected as pilot areas for the establishment of similar consortia, building the foundations of a national cooperation network in agriculture and increasing the competitiveness of Albanian products.
The meeting also discussed opportunities for further cooperation, such as: a pre-feasibility study on dam safety, investments in food safety and laboratories, the expansion of smart agriculture beyond the pilot area, and the continuation of interventions in the Lushnja irrigation system.
Minister Salla expressed his maximum commitment to the successful conclusion of the Mid-Term Assessment Mission that will take place within December, as well as his willingness to deepen cooperation with the World Bank in order to promote the long-term development of the agricultural and rural sector in the country.
