Minister Malaj at the Hani i Hoti customs: Facilitation of procedures for business, standard for EU integration

The Minister of Finance, Mr. Petrit Malaj, together with the Director General of Customs, Mr. Besmir Beja, conducted a working visit to the Hani i Hotit customs point, which is one of the most important customs points in our country and constitutes one of the main trade gateways to European markets.
During the visit, the Minister was closely acquainted with the daily activity of the customs branch, the process of processing customs declarations and the measures being taken to facilitate the scanning of goods and vehicles, with the aim of increasing security, speed of processing and transparency of procedures.
During the meeting with the employees of this customs branch, issues related to the high flow of international transport, waiting times, improving coordination with the customs authorities of Montenegro, as well as the necessary investments in infrastructure and digitalization to facilitate the activity of businesses and transporters were also discussed.
Minister Malaj emphasized the importance of modernizing the customs administration and facilitating procedures for business, especially regarding the control of imports and exports, for Albania's European integration process.
The country is currently implementing a European model, which aims for fast, transparent and reliable customs, using information technology, data analysis and inter-institutional cooperation.
Meanwhile, one of the main objectives remains to encourage the circulation of more Albanian exports and guarantee faster supply of imports, thus strengthening trust in international partners.
The Ministry of Finance will continue investments in the modernization of customs infrastructure, the digitalization of services and the strengthening of cross-border cooperation, with the aim of facilitating trade, reducing business costs and accelerating processes, in line with Albania's commitments within the framework of integration into the European Union.
The Hani i Hotit Customs Office is one of the strategically important customs points for the entire northern region of Albania. This land customs point with Montenegro carries the main weight of customs activity in the region. The revenues generated for 2025 have been increasing, while the average customs clearance time has been decreasing, reflecting the improvement of processes and operational efficiency.
