Ministers Malaj and Murati, joint inspection visit to the Morinë-Vërmicë customs branch
The Minister of Finance, Petrit Malaj, held a meeting with the Minister of Finance, Labor and Transfers of the Republic of Kosovo, Hekuran Murati. This meeting took place within the framework of a joint inspection visit that the two ministers had at the Morinë-Vermicë customs branch, one of the most important customs points between Albania and Kosovo.
During this meeting, Malaj assessed that over the years the cooperation between our two countries has been stable and ever-growing, while concrete and tangible results have been recorded in many sectors. Thanks to this cooperation, he said, concrete results have also been recorded in terms of customs, which has brought about facilitation of trade between the two countries, standardization of procedures between them and as a result more economic development.
"The best example of cooperation is the On Stop Shop, which has facilitated the processing of passengers and goods. Also, joint transit procedures or simplified declarations have significantly reduced customs clearance times, improving the business climate on both sides," said Malaj.
For his part, Minister Hekuran Murati emphasized that the facilitation of procedures and the reduction of costs have been felt by businesses and traders, which has influenced the increase in trade exchanges between our two countries. Murati said that Albania is among the main trading partners for the Republic of Kosovo and this cooperation is expected to deepen even further.
"Albania is among the main trading partners of the Republic of Kosovo and the circulation of people has already been at high levels, but now there is more and more integration, there is interaction, there is greater cooperation between people, which I believe has also been facilitated by the road and infrastructure. I believe this will deepen, especially with the plan we have for the construction of the joint Pristina-Durres railway," said Murati.
During the visit, the Ministers were accompanied by the respective heads of customs of the two countries, Mr. Gent Gazheli and Mr. Agron Llugaliu. The Director General of Customs of Albania assessed that the accelerated procedures and the unique One Stop Shop point in Morinë have contributed to the increase in trade volume between the two countries and the flow of passengers. For his part, the Director General of Customs of Kosovo assessed that thanks to the facilitation of procedures, it has been possible to reduce financial costs and waiting times, at a time when attention should be paid to expanding processing and digitalization capacities.
