More workers from Ukraine in Albania - Higher wages than in their home country, main motive for coming
Ukrainian citizens who, due to the war, or individuals from Asian countries like Bangladesh or India, who, due to the level of salaries, choose to come to work in Albania.
Some in construction and some in the tourism sector like bars and restaurants.
"The majority are coming from Ukraine and Bangladesh, but we also have a part from India. The salary part is satisfactory for these individuals and we have also helped them normally with the work visa, because in this country there are bureaucracies and the procedure to obtain one is a bit long" - says Anisa Berushi, manager at a restaurant in the capital, to the microphone of Scan television.
According to data from Eurostat, the minimum wage in Ukraine is at the level of 180 euros, while in India, according to data, it reaches no more than 230 euros, while in Albania it is 400 euros. The replacement of staff from local to foreign for some of these restaurants seems to have also affected the service.
"Currently, we are very satisfied with foreigners, as the service is of higher quality, because they also bring techniques and traditions from the countries where these employees come from, influencing the quality of service," Ms. Berushi further explains.
According to data from INSTAT, last year around 22 thousand foreigners worked regularly in Albania with a work visa, increasing compared to 2023. The majority of them were men, at almost 62%.
