Over 60 thousand vehicles fail technical inspection - Old vehicles are being

The General Directorate of Road Transport Services has published data for the period January-March 2025 regarding the technical inspection service of vehicles in circulation. During this period, 60,225 vehicles were tested, of which 87.72% consist of vehicles with a capacity of 4+1 to 8+1 seats.

The majority of the controls, 35.8%, were carried out near the DPSHTRR center in Tirana, reflecting and reflecting the highest flow and greatest concentration of vehicles in the capital.

Meanwhile, according to figures published by the DPSHTRR, 29% of vehicles have remained in testing or 17,379 vehicles in total, raising concerns about the technical condition of vehicles in circulation. Mainly, the reasons for the delay are related to visual and functional deficiencies (34%); problems with the exhaust system (34%); defects in the steering system (14%) and problems with the braking system (18%).

Another element is the age of vehicles in circulation. During this quarter, 1,875 vehicles with an average age of 22 years were permanently deregistered. This indicator shows the necessity for the renewal of the road fleet in the country.

The DPSHTRR also emphasizes that odometer tampering, constructive modifications and any other manipulation are strictly prohibited, as these practices are a threat to road safety. Also, citizens can make reservations for technical inspections through the e-Albania portal.
