The Assembly approves the 2025 Budget Project with 75 votes in favor

In the evening hours, the Assembly approved in principle the Draft Budget for the year 2025. With 75 votes in favor and 40 against, the most important financial document for the coming year will be in the procedure to be discussed article by article. The vote concluded a marathon session where there were no shortage of debates and fierce clashes between political parties.

At the start of the marathon session yesterday, Prime Minister Edi Rama presented the main figures and announced that the bonus for pensioners with a pension of up to 20,000 lek will be tripled to 150 euros, while for those with a monthly pension of over 20,000 lek lek, will be doubled to 100 euros. Rama simultaneously announced the opening of a fund at the Bank of Albania that will be used for the pensioners' spring bonus.

While the Minister of Finance, Petrit Malaj emphasized that the draft budget for 2025 fully materializes the main objectives of fiscal policy, through a positive primary balance, reduction of public debt, targeting for 2025 a debt level of 55.8% of GDP and a productive ratio between total net borrowing of the budget and capital expenditure of the central government, realizing a positive current account balance of 3.6% of GDP.

The budget for 2025 fulfills two fundamental objectives, sustainable economic growth, creating employment, development and well-being for all Albanian citizens, as well as fiscal consolidation, with the final goal of reducing public debt and maintaining all macroeconomic and fiscal parameters at levels positive. The budget revenues for 2025 are predicted at 754.6 billion ALL or 28.8% of GDP and compared to the revised plan for 2024, with about 40.6 billion ALL more.

Budgetary expenses, in the draft budget of 2025, are predicted at the level of 822.7 billion ALL with an increase in absolute value of 51.4 billion ALL, compared to the revised plan of 2024.
