Exchange rate, 120 million euro loss for exporters - Prenche: Reaction required, 65 thousand jobs at risk
The devaluation of the euro against the lek continues to cause high losses for exporters as well as closing of contracts. In an interview for SCAN TV, the Chairman of the Pro-Export Albania Association, Edvin Prençe, states that in one year exports have fallen to -15 percent and the economic damage is estimated at around 120 million euros.
"We are in a situation where there is a drop in exports by -15 percent, we are facing a clinical death for the entire Albanian economy, especially the Albanian exporters, and today none of the responsible institutions are working on how to stop this hemorrhage. I can say that there are 120 million euros missing from the Albanian market and the Albanian economy".
The exporters ask the government to hold a technical roundtable to analyze the damages and opportunities for support.
"We want a technical table with the government to see the consequences and opportunities and what we can do to support this sector. There are 65,000 jobs at risk and over 10,000 jobs lost in 1 year. It also has a social impact."
Despite some measures taken to help these businesses, the consequences are still great and there is still no turning point for the clothing and footwear manufacturing sector.
