The 112th anniversary of independence is celebrated - The heads of state of Albania and Kosovo, at the flag raising ceremony
Albanians commemorated today the 112th anniversary of the country's independence from the Ottoman Empire. The President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, the Prime Minister Edi Rama, the Speaker of the Assembly, Elisa Spiropali, as well as the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, participated in the official flag raising ceremony in Vlora.
The celebrations started in Flag Square with the performance of the National Anthem and continued with the tributes held in honor of the efforts and sacrifices of Albanian patriots for independence, near the monumental resting place of Ismail Qemali.
On November 28, 1912, Ismail Qemali raised the flag in Vlora, declaring Albania a sovereign and independent state. The Act of Declaration of Independence constitutes one of the most important events in the history of the Albanian people.
Independence Day is a moment of reflection and pride for all Albanians, where history, culture and national identity are valued.
