Restrictions on new vehicles Market entry, new law: Only if they meet CO₂ emission requirements

The new Law "On Climate Change" provides for new measures to reduce emissions from the transport sector, by imposing specific restrictions and obligations on new vehicles being put on the market.
According to the document just published in the Official Gazette, new passenger vehicles, new light commercial vehicles and heavy vehicles can only be placed on the market if they meet performance requirements for carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions, which will be determined by decision of the Council of Ministers.
The law requires the government to adopt detailed rules on the CO₂ emissions performance of new vehicles. These rules include monitoring and reporting data on the registration of new passenger vehicles, as well as assessing the reduction in emissions compared to new light commercial vehicles.
Another important element of the new provision relates to transparency for consumers. New passenger cars and new light commercial vehicles will only be able to be sold or leased if they are accompanied by clear information on fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions.
The law also provides for special measures to provide information on fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions during the marketing of new vehicles, with the aim of raising consumer awareness and orienting the market towards vehicles with a lower climate impact.
