Intense rainfall across the country - IGEO: Rapid river flooding and landslides
The heavy rains that have been hitting the country for several days continue this Thursday. According to the Institute of Geosciences, intense rainfall is expected throughout the country. In the regions of Shkodër, Dibër, Lezhë, Durrës, Tirana, Elbasan, Fier, Korçë, Vlorë and Gjirokastër, there may be flash floods of small mountain rivers and landslides.
In urban areas, localized flooding problems may occur in these districts, depending on the condition of the sewers.
According to IGJEO's hydrological calculations, as a result of the high-intensity rainfall over the past few days, which will continue until this Thursday, there will be an increase in flows and levels in the Mat, Ishëm, Erzen, and Shkumbin rivers.
There will be an increased risk of flooding throughout today and tomorrow on the Vjosa River, the Drin-Buna River, and Lake Shkodra.
Intense rainfall will include the regions of Shkodër, Dibër, Lezhë, Durrës, Tirana, Elbasan, Fier, Berat, Korçë, Vlorë and Gjirokastër, while moderate to locally intense rainfall is expected in the Kukës region. The rainfall is expected to be accompanied by thunderstorms.
In the North, East and Southeast at altitudes above 500 m above sea level, precipitation will be in the form of snow.
Temperatures on the coast range from 5 / 10 °C, in lowlands 0 / 9 °C and in mountainous areas: -5 / 4 °C. The wind is expected to blow moderately to strongly on the coast and in mountainous areas.
