"Security corridor for NATO forces"/ Rama: Corridor VIII, part of the

Corridor VIII, starting from the Durrës-Porto Romano port complex and exiting the Black Sea, has been officially included in NATO's critical military plans and infrastructure, being recognized as a security corridor for the collective defense of the Alliance. Prime Minister Edi Rama shared on social networks some of the works that have been studied, designed and are being implemented by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, as constituent works of this Corridor. The works built and those in progress on the ground include modern highways, the construction of the strategic port of Porto Romano, as well as railways supported by the EU.

"Corridor VIII, part of the European TENT network, now certified as a security corridor for NATO forces," writes Prime Minister Rama.

Corridor VIII is one of the core infrastructure projects, which connects with three other important road networks as well as Corridors 4, 9 and the Trans-European Network.

The inclusion of Corridor VIII as a security corridor for NATO forces positions Albania at a strategic node of the Euro-Atlantic security architecture, and places the country at the center of regional plans and infrastructures, where NATO will focus in the coming years. This corridor, a road and rail hub that starts in Brindisi in Italy, passes through Albania, North Macedonia and ends in the ports of Bulgaria.

The decision to officially recognize it as a security corridor for collective defense by NATO was taken in Brussels by the Defense Ministers of the alliance's member countries, where the Albanian Defense Minister, Pirro Vengu, was also present.
