Competition collected 124 million lek in fines in 2024 - Annual report: 11 monitoring and 8 investigative procedures were carried out
In the past year, the Competition Authority has carried out a total of 11 monitoring and 8 investigative procedures against enterprises in several markets, with the aim of protecting free and effective competition in the market, prohibiting all agreements that have as their object or effect the prevention, restriction or distortion of competition in the market, especially agreements that determine purchase or sale prices, or any other trading conditions, as well as against enterprises that abuse their dominant position.
From concentrations (i.e. concentration notifications and authorizations) it turns out that 27 million lek have been collected in the state budget by December 2024. Meanwhile, the revenues collected in the state budget from the collection of fines by December 2024 amount to 124 million lek.
Monitoring was carried out in the bread sales market, the operation of customs agencies operating near the Durrës Sea Port, the collection and wholesale sale of fruits and vegetables, life insurance for credit, the service of preparing and equipping with driving licenses, the management of parking facilities at Tirana International Airport, the coffee trading, processing and packaging market, the hospital service market, banking services, the tourism industry, as well as the trading of food basket products. About 5 of them are still ongoing.
Regarding basket products, the Competition Authority has conducted 4 monitoring and 2 investigations during 2024.
Meanwhile, investigative procedures have been undertaken against the production market, the sale of dairy by-products, the collection and wholesale sale of fruits and vegetables, public procurement against 4 enterprises, the production/import and wholesale sale of cement market, access to internet service in residential residences in the Tirana district, life insurance for loans, as well as the taxi service market for passengers to and from Tirana International Airport.
