Insurance companies pay 1.2 billion lek in damages - AMF: About 1.28% less than in 2023. Most of it belongs to motor insurance
Claims paid by insurance companies have decreased. Around 1.2 billion lek is the amount of claims paid by insurance companies in January-February of this year. The latest data from the Financial Supervisory Authority shows that gross claims paid fell by almost 1.28%, while the largest share belongs to motor insurance, specifically domestic MTPL.
Given that the largest number of contracts and gross written premiums is recorded for insurance in the non-life category, the value of claims paid is also higher in the non-life activity.
About 87.42% of the amount of damages paid belongs to the non-life category, 6% are damages paid by the Compensation Fund and 6.5% are damages paid for life. It turns out that fewer damages were paid from the Compensation Fund than in 2024. The compensation fund for damages in the transport sector for 2025 is in the amount of 250 million lek.
The number of claims paid in the first two months of the year is over 12,626 more than in the same period of the previous year, of which 11,632 claims were paid by Non-Life insurance companies and 479 by Life insurance companies.
In terms of life insurance, the debtor's life product has the highest claim payment values, while in the non-life category, after motor insurance comes land vehicle insurance, health insurance, and then fire and natural forces insurance.
On the other hand, pending damages, that is, those that are still unpaid, that are in the process of being assessed, or that are the subject of legal cases, have increased.
According to the Statistical Institute, in the first two months of the year, 21.1% fewer road accidents were recorded than in 2024. As a result of the lower number of accidents caused, damage payments were also lower.
