38 million euros for the purchase of energy - In the period January-March KESH

3 tender procedures are carried out, the bill is estimated at around 11 million euros

Around 38 million euros were spent in the first 3 months of the year on the purchase of energy, in order to meet consumer needs. According to data published by the Albanian Power Corporation, a total of around 268 thousand mWh of energy were purchased, at an average price of 136 euros/mWh. In total, 10 tenders for the provision of energy were held during the 3 months.

This situation is different from last year, as no procedure for purchasing energy was carried out until June, as the needs were met by the production of the Drini Cascade hydropower plants. According to calculations, the bill for purchasing energy throughout 2024 amounted to about 70 million euros.

These data once again highlight the dependence that our country has on weather conditions in terms of electricity generation. This, taking into account that about 94% of it is produced from water sources, while only 6% comes from photovoltaic plants. KESH has stated that there are several projects in progress, aimed at building solar power plants, which would diversify the portfolio of the public generation company, but so far only Qyrsaqi is in production, with an installed capacity of 5.14 mWp.
