“Electoral Code should address key issues” - Celibashi: Rules on party financing by third parties

State Election Commissioner Ilirjan Celibashi calls for electoral reform to address several key issues, starting with the financing of political parties and electoral entities by third parties, while emphasizing that it should be decided whether electronic voting will be expanded.
"Within the framework of the organization and functioning of political parties and the financing of political parties' election campaigns, it remains to be seen what we will have to do with the financing of third parties that engage and support certain political entities. This aspect must be regulated. There is nothing regarding social networks, online campaigns or through the internet, etc.," said Celibashi.
Another aspect brought to attention by Celibashi is that related to guaranteeing the opportunity to vote for people unable to leave their homes.
"We need to resolve the issue of voters who cannot exercise this right. They have the right to vote but cannot leave their homes for health reasons. This is unacceptable, especially now when we are delivering ballots to Albanians in Australia, while those who have their homes above or next to the polling station cannot vote because they cannot leave their homes for health reasons ," he said.
Chief Commissioner Celibashi presented these requests at the Electoral Reform panel at the Conference "30 Years of Partnership and Progress: Albania, the Council of Europe and the Venice Commission".
