11 new power plants in production - Developments in the power sector, total

During the first 8 months of this year, there has been an increase in new production capacities in the electricity sector, with 11 plants having a total installed capacity of 225 MW.

More specifically, according to data from the Energy Regulatory Authority, 6 new hydropower plants have entered operation during this period, with an installed capacity of 69.23 MW. At the same time, 5 photovoltaic plants have started producing energy, adding another 155.98 MW to the national grid.

Also, 9 hydropower plants, which previously had purchase and sale contracts with the Free Market Supplier, part of OSHEE Group, now operate in the free energy market, with a total capacity of 26.37 MW.

ERE emphasizes that these developments show a stable dynamic in the growth of new sources of energy production, especially from renewable sources, as well as a further expansion of the free energy market in the country.

This trend follows that of last year, where a total of 26 plants entered production during 2024, with an installed capacity of 269.95 MW. This includes solar power plants, but also hydroelectric power plants that were added to the country's production capacities. These capacities were divided between hydropower and photovoltaic sources, with the overwhelming majority being solar power plants, with a total of 255.95 MW. These plants produced 1.81% of the total electricity produced in the country.
