The lack of rain during the last months has forced the Albanian Electricity Corporation to return to energy purchases. This department has developed a tendering procedure to meet the needs of the community in the period 11 - 17 November. In total, about 11 million euros were spent on providing energy, while the average price varies from 147-154 euros/mWh.

This is the first procedure for the purchase of energy developed after 3 months, that KESH has not carried out imports, which suggests that until now the needs have been met by the production in the Drin Cascade. However, these expenses have increased the bill for the purchase of energy for 2024, bringing it to almost 55 million euros. This amount was spent only from the middle of June, when the first imports started, since no procedure for energy insurance was carried out until almost the middle of the year.

The need to import energy comes as a result of the lack of rainfall that would affect the production of energy from the Drin River Cascade. Meanwhile, the latest available data show that production fell during the 9th month of this year, compared to the same period last year.

In total, during the year 2024, about 430,000 mWh of energy were imported, while the average price is estimated at 122.7 euros/mWh.
