Cultural tourism, 443 million lek income - Minister Gonxhja: About 1.2 million

The number of tourists showing interest in our cultural heritage is ever increasing. According to the Minister of Economy, Culture and Innovation, our cultural sites have welcomed a total of 1,229,195 visitors during January-October 2024 with an increase of 34% compared to the same period last year, where 61% of visitors are foreign tourists.

But what are the top 5 destinations preferred by visitors?

Gjirokastër Castle ranks first with 248,890 visitors.

Butrint Archaeological Park with 195,216 visitors respectively;

The increase in visitors to cultural sites is also translated into income, where during the period January-October 2024, the figure reaches 443 million ALL, i.e. about 40% more than a year ago, emphasizes Minister Gonxhja.

Meanwhile, in the budget for 2025, it is determined that the priority will remain the improvement of the infrastructure in national museums, archaeological parks as well as the improvement of the physical condition of cultural monuments through continuous interventions throughout the country;

Improvement and expansion of the cultural market through a legislation for the benefit of creators, artistic and cultural creativity and cultural heritage, as well as the drafting of the new package of the project support scheme of the Ministry of Culture.

The historical and cultural heritage of the country offers considerable potential and remains a favorite tourist attraction. The spirit of Albania is alive in these monuments, where history meets the present and is passed on to visitors and future generations.
