January-April 2025, vehicle registrations increase - Imports from South Korea dominate
During the period January-April 2025, an increase in vehicle registrations in the country was observed. According to official data reported by the General Directorate of Road Transport Services, a total of 29,250 vehicles were registered, a figure that represents an increase of 104% compared to the same period in 2019.
Of these registrations, cars constitute the vast majority with a percentage of 81.6% of the total, thus reflecting a steady trend towards citizens choosing this type of vehicle.
Regarding the origin of imported vehicles, the top list remains dominated by the Republic of South Korea, which accounts for 29.3% of the total registered vehicles, followed by Germany with 16.5%, Italy with 15.2%, Switzerland with 8%, China with 7% and the United States of America with 6.8%.
Regarding the process of renewing the fleet of vehicles in circulation, during the first quarter of 2025, 4,726 latest generation vehicles 0-3 years old were registered, marking a significant increase of 62% compared to the same period in 2023. This shows a growing awareness among citizens to choose newer, safer and less polluting vehicles.
Meanwhile, in the same period, 2,541 permanent deregistrations of vehicles were also recorded, a figure that represents an increase of 12% compared to the first quarter of 2024, and which shows that the process of cleaning up obsolete vehicles is progressing in parallel with modernization efforts.
In this context, the DPSHTRR continues to call on all drivers to show maximum caution and high responsibility in respecting road traffic rules, as well as to regularly and timely carry out all periodic technical checks of their vehicles.
On the other hand, the DPSHTRR recalls the necessity of carrying out environmental category verification for every vehicle intended to be imported into the Albanian territory, as an important measure for environmental protection and guaranteeing European pollution standards.
