Internet "dominates" Albanian homes - AKEP: The number of Wi-Fi subscriptions is increasing, while traditional telephony continues to decline

Internet through fixed networks is gaining more and more users in Albania, while fixed telephony continues to lose ground. The latest data from the Electronic and Postal Communications Authority show that the number of subscribers with broadband internet access through fixed networks reached around 733 thousand in the second quarter of the year.
This shows that the internet is now an increasingly important service for Albanian families and businesses. The number of users has increased compared to the beginning of the year and the same period last year.
But the change is not only in the number of users. It is also noticeable in the way citizens choose communication packages. More and more people are choosing internet at home or business, without necessarily connecting it to other services. In the second quarter, about 437 thousand subscribers had only internet service.
Meanwhile, around 295 thousand users had integrated packages, where the internet is combined with television or telephony. Among these packages, the most preferred is the one that combines the internet with television. In contrast, packages that also include telephony are gradually losing users.
This trend shows a shift in the way Albanians communicate and consume digital services. For many families, the internet has become the primary service, while traditional telephony is no longer seen as a necessity.
This is also confirmed by data on fixed telephony. The number of subscribers has dropped to around 144 thousand, continuing to decline this year. At a time when calls can be made through applications and communication is increasingly online, the use of traditional telephones at home is decreasing.
So, the communications market is gradually changing, the internet is expanding, while landline telephony is shrinking. For citizens, this means that online services are taking on an increasingly larger role in communication and daily life.
