Infrastructure, elite tourism and local development - Farrici: Encouragement of entrepreneurship! Mema: New roads, impact on transport
Investments in infrastructure will not only impact the lives of citizens and tourists, but also encourage entrepreneurial initiatives by increasing employment.
Invited to the GDP show on SCAN TV, Adelina Farrici, Executive Director of the National Association of Municipalities, emphasized the importance of investments for sustainable tourism and the impact on other sectors.
"Investments in infrastructure bring more convenience. They make an area have year-round tourism. Of course, the importance is in the impact on the lives of citizens, so not only does infrastructure make the lives of citizens easier, but it also changes the household economy of the citizens of these areas. Also, entrepreneurial initiatives are encouraged, bringing sustainable employment, " said Farrici.
The United Nations World Tourism Organization has ranked Albania in first place as the destination with the highest growth in the number of tourists, while expectations are for more tourists compared to 11.7 million visitors arriving in 2024. The President of the Public Transport Association, Dashnor Memaj, said on the GDP show that improving the infrastructure increases the responsibility to improve the vehicle fleet. Meanwhile, according to him, the construction of the terminal for the North and South will make the connection with the railway even more efficient.
"The most important part of a developed country is infrastructure. We have many investments in important segments such as Corridor VIII, etc., which will give a positive spirit to the communication of vehicles and connections with the region. As a citizen and for every tourist, ease of movement is created and with this increase in the number of tourists, the key point is the improvement of transport. We have constantly requested, as the Public Transport Association, to have improvements to roads in addition to economic requirements. Every road construction is less costly, the distance is shortened, etc. and places us in front of the responsibility to improve the public transport fleet. Meanwhile, the new terminal that is being built will be in contemporary parameters and will be connected to the train station that will distribute the flow of movement of citizens" - said Memaj.
What has been identified as a problem by Memaj and Farrici is the lack of human resources. The approach of the new tourist season requires more staff for this sector and the public transport service, where the latter has increased salaries to 1,000 euros for bus drivers.
