Hoxha in Bulgaria: EU enlargement is a strategic investment, Albania aims for membership in 2030

Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ferit Hoxha, during a visit to Bulgaria, participated in a panel discussion organized by the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR), where the perspective of European Union enlargement in the Western Balkans was addressed.
During the discussion, Minister Hoxha emphasized the importance that the EU enlargement process has taken on in the context of an increasingly complex geopolitical environment, underlining that the integration of the Western Balkan countries is now a strategic necessity for the European Union itself.
"In today's strategic context, enlargement is no longer seen solely as a transformation policy. It has become a strategic investment for the security, stability, competitiveness and long-term sustainability of the EU," Hoxha said.
According to him, developments in recent years have proven that a stronger and more united Europe cannot be fully realized without the integration of the Western Balkans into the European Union.
The Minister noted that Albania's EU accession process is not simply a foreign policy objective, but a national aspiration that enjoys broad political and social support. He emphasized that the country's European journey reflects the transformation of institutions and the strategic choice of Albanians for the future.
Hoxha also underlined that a credible and merit-based enlargement process is in the common interest of both the candidate countries and the European Union. “Albania remains fully committed to maintaining the current pace, accelerating reforms and advancing decisively in the negotiation process ,” the minister declared.
He reiterated the Albanian government's objective of concluding membership negotiations by 2027 and the country's full membership in the European Union by 2030. At the end of his speech, Minister Hoxha expressed his gratitude to the ECFR and the participants for the exchange of ideas and discussion on the European future of the region.
