The labor market leaves young people behind/ Their employment has fallen to

Youth employment continues to remain one of the biggest challenges of the labor market in Albania. The latest data published by the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) show that young people are finding it increasingly difficult to integrate into the labor market, while the employment rate for this age group has declined over the past year.

According to the Quarterly Labor Force Survey, the youth employment rate fell to 42.8%, down from 44.8% in the same period a year ago. This means that fewer young people are finding or keeping a job. Specifically, about 14.4 thousand young people have left the labor market during this period.

The situation is different for the 30-64 age group, which continues to dominate the labor market. For this category, the employment rate reached 78.6%, up from 78.2% in the last quarter of 2025. The data shows that the greatest fluctuations in the labor market are being felt mainly by young people, while older age groups continue to maintain a more stable position.

Unemployment statistics also highlight the difficulties faced by young people. Compared to the last quarter of 2025, youth unemployment has increased from 15.1% to 16.9%. This increase shows that a significant proportion of young people continue to face obstacles in finding a job, despite the market's need for labor in various sectors.

On the other hand, in terms of gender, unemployment continues to be higher among women. However, the data show a slight improvement at the beginning of this year. The unemployment rate for women fell to 9.2%, from 9.8% a year earlier and 9.4% in the last quarter of 2025.

Recent indicators suggest that, although the labor market in Albania remains relatively stable for the most economically active age groups, the main challenge continues to be the integration of young people. The decline in employment and the increase in unemployment in this age group signal the need for policies and initiatives that facilitate the transition of young people from education to the labor market.
