Railways, projects over 1.7 billion euros - Priorities 2027-2029, cost for Durrës-Pristina 750 million euros
The government has identified a number of priority projects in the rail transport sector for the period 2027–2029, some of which are classified as "mature" and others as "partially mature".
Among the mature projects, the rehabilitation of the Durrës-Rrogozhinë railway line stands out, with a value of around 122.9 million euros, as well as the electrification of the Tirana-Durres line and the connection to Rinas Airport, which amounts to 27.5 million euros. Also part of this category are other strategic investments such as the electrification of the Vlorë-Hani i Hotit line, with a cost of around 59.9 million euros, as well as the rehabilitation of this line, which amounts to over 308 million euros.
Meanwhile, the category of “partially mature” projects includes interventions with even higher financial value. Specifically, the rehabilitation of the Rrogozhinë–Pogradec–Prrenjas railway, which connects to the border with North Macedonia, foresees an investment of around 451 million euros. Another major project is the construction of the Durrës–Prishtinë railway line, with a considerable value of 750 million euros, which aims to strengthen regional connectivity and economic integration.
A project is considered "mature" when it has completed the feasibility study or is in an advanced technical phase, while "partially mature" when only part of the technical documentation or preliminary studies have been initiated.
The total value of these projects amounts to over 1.7 billion euros.
