How much 'savings' do Albanian businesses have in the bank? At the end of 2025, 354.6 billion lek of insurable deposits
Albanian businesses had 354.6 billion lek of insurable deposits in banks at the end of 2025, but most of this amount remains above the coverage limit of the deposit insurance scheme. According to the 2025 Annual Report of the Deposit Insurance Agency, insurable deposits of traders and commercial companies increased by 12.7%.
Deposits with amounts up to 2.5 million lek increased by 10.4%, and their weight against total insurable deposits of merchants and commercial companies was 10%, while deposits with amounts over 2.5 million lek, which have a weight of 90%, increased by 12.9%.
In contrast to the situation of insured deposits of individuals, 90% of deposits of merchants and commercial companies are in amounts above the coverage level, and correspond to 16,905 depositors, who represent 8.2% of merchant and commercial company depositors.
Deposits in lek account for 41.7%, and recorded an annual increase of 17.8%, giving the greatest impact on the annual growth of insurable deposits of merchants and commercial companies.
Meanwhile, deposits in euros expressed in lek equivalent account for the largest share of deposits of merchants and commercial companies at 53.3%, and recorded an annual increase of 11.4%.
Compared to individuals, businesses' insured deposits are almost 4 times smaller, meaning they hold about a quarter of the insured deposits held by individuals.
