"Fines on the rise. Every driver, at least one penalty" - Luzi: The

Improper overtaking, using a phone while driving, or not wearing a seat belt are some of the most common violations that have resulted in penalties for drivers.

Over the past year, traffic police have issued around 1.1 million fines, a figure that marks an increase of 25% compared to the same period a year earlier.

"The increase in traffic has brought more violations, which in turn is reflected in the increase in the number of fines. We are aware that today we are seeing many violations on the roads. " Says Arben Luzi, road safety expert.

Data from the General Directorate of Road Transport Services shows that there are around 1.1 million active driving licenses in the country, meaning that on average every driver has been punished at least once during the past year.

"These are a very large amount of fines, if we were to calculate them for a general patrol, there is no time in the sector where it operates to impose so many violations by increasing the number of fines." Mr. Luzi expresses, among other things.

Another factor that has influenced the increase in the number of fines is the increase in traffic flow, driven by the increase in the number of foreign citizens, especially during the summer season.

During this period, 30% of total fines were imposed precisely because of this intensification of traffic.
