Fines for not declaring physical money at the border/ Customs, appeal to

With the increasing flow of citizens at border points, the problems regarding crossing with large undeclared monetary amounts are also increasing, thus violating the legislation in force.

For this reason, the General Directorate of Customs appeals to all travelers entering or leaving Albania to declare to Customs any amount over 10,000 euros or its equivalent: cash, precious metals, precious stones or valuables.

The declaration is made through the form for reporting the transport of valuables at the border (RTVK) which is completed online at the customs offices at the Border Crossing Points, before the passport control by the Police and Security Authorities. It does not matter the mode of travel, which can be by plane, ship, car, motorbike, bicycle, or foot.

Completing the form is free, but it must be accompanied by documents justifying the source of income.

It also does not matter where the monetary values are kept: in the handbag, in the luggage, in the vehicle in which the traveler is traveling, or whether the monetary assets are or are not owned by the travelers.

According to the legislation in force, failure to declare or false declaration is punishable by a fine and, in some cases, is treated under the Criminal Code.

Specifically, for amounts from 10,000 - 19,999 euros or their equivalent in other foreign currencies, the fine is 20,000 lek for the first time, 10% of the undeclared value for the second time, and 30% of the undeclared value for other cases; for amounts from 20,000 - 49,999 euros or their equivalent in other foreign currencies, the fine is 40,000 lek for the first time, 20% of the undeclared value for the second time, and 40% of the undeclared value for other cases; For amounts over 50,000 euros or their equivalent in other foreign currencies, the fine is 60,000 lek for the first time, 30% of the undeclared value for the second time, and 50% of the undeclared value for other cases.
