Almost 1 million transactions carried out at the cash register - BSH: Businesses withdrew and deposited more money than individuals
Despite the fact that the number of transactions carried out at physical bank counters has increased both for individuals and for businesses, the latter turn out to have carried out actions at the cash register in values many times higher than individuals. This is because businesses have a larger cash flow than individuals, but also because large cash deposits or other business-specific services cannot be done at ATMs or through mobile banking.
Official data from the Bank of Albania show that the number of cash transactions was recorded at 965,000, an increase of 1% compared to the second quarter of the year. Nearly 81% of these transactions are cash deposits, while 19% are cash withdrawals. According to calculations, about 316 billion ALL were deposited only through the cash register, while 127 billion ALL were withdrawn from businesses in the July-September period.
Throughout 2024, a total of 2.8 million transactions have been carried out by businesses at the physical counters of second level banks.
Regarding periodic transactions, Bank of Albania statistics show that in the third quarter, 77,000 credit transfers and 6 million debit transfers were carried out. Around ALL 58 billion is estimated to be loan disbursement, i.e. the deposit of loan funds in the business account, while 179 billion are interest payments on deposits.
On the other hand, debit transfers have seen an increase in number, but a decrease in the amount of transactions. Credit card repayments amount to ALL 3.4 billion, while loan installment payments amount to ALL 37 billion.
