1X introduces the humanoid robot NEO - The new device will help people in doing household chores
The race to be the first humanoid robot to welcome into our homes continues, with big companies like Tesla and small startups competing to make this innovation part of our daily routine. One of those hoping to win this race is 1X, a company based in Norway and Silicon Valley, with their humanoid robot, NEO. Dressed in a futuristic suit, NEO was recently unveiled at the firm's headquarters in Moss, south of the Norwegian capital, Oslo.
Bernt Bornich, CEO and founder of 1X, said: "In the long run, the robot will take care of laundry, cleaning the house, and generally give people the time they need for other activities. In addition, it will be a great companion, you can talk to him, he can teach you things, he can be fun to talk to."
NEO is also designed to be controlled remotely even if you are in another location. Bornich said this will allow users to access their robotic avatar no matter where they are in the world. It could also enable new types of human-robot interaction, he said.
The union of artificial intelligence and engineering is advancing the field of humanoid robotics significantly. Engineers design robots that mimic human form and movement, while artificial intelligence provides 'thinking ability', enabling these machines to learn from their environment, make decisions and perform complex tasks.
The prototype version of NEO was commanded by humans remotely. The company said this is how 1X trains their new technology models, learning from robots working in real-world environments.
The version will be ready for the market in 2025. 1X says it can't reveal pricing details yet, but it's expected to be in line with a mid-priced new car.
However, there is no lack of competition in this sector. Elon Musk said in October 2024 that there will be at least 10 billion humanoid robots priced between $20,000 and $25,000 by 2040. Also, at the recent International Conference on Humanoid Robotics in Nancy, France, over 30 companies as well as institutions research showed off their latest robots.
