"Strengthening the regional and European common market" - Ibrahimaj:

"Strategic Connectivity and Regional Economic Growth: The Economic Potential of Corridor VIII" was the economic forum held in Tirana. In her speech, the Minister of Economy, Delina Ibrahimaj, considered this Corridor strategic for the development of logistics and the strengthening of the regional and European common market.

"This project is a strategic opportunity to reaffirm our role as a hub. Our geographical position places us at a key point. Through the development of ports, road, rail, and energy infrastructure, Albania can without fear become an important transit and distribution point. One of the greatest potentials for the country's economic development is the development of logistics, and only through the development of infrastructure can we become a logistics and entry point for Western and Eastern Europe. We have seen the interest of various companies.

"The implementation of this project is of extraordinary impact. For years we have been working to strengthen the regional common market, as a foundation for entry into the European common market ," said Ibrahimaj.

Deputy Minister of Finance, Endrit Yzeiraj, emphasized the historical importance of this corridor, as well as the goals to further develop trade.

"Corridor VIII is not an initiative of the times we live in, but it is a reimagining of the historic Egnatia route, to aid the transport of goods, but also the transport of armies. It was a corridor that remained important throughout history.

The importance today is not only historical, but economic, political, and geo-strategic and military.

The Albanian government has a very clear strategy for the development of this corridor. On the one hand, we are mainly aiming at the development of road and port infrastructure with budgetary funds. The development of the new port in Porto Romano, with dual use, both commercial and military, and we are also aiming at the development of the highway that will connect the port of Durrës with Qafë e Thanës. Meanwhile, we are cooperating with international partners to develop the Albanian railway. Two extremely important segments: Vorë-Hani-Hotit and Durrës-Rrogozhinë, have been financed through two packages, a fund that is approaching almost 500 million euros. It has already been approved in the Parliament and includes loans and grants.

"The goal is clear and important. We aim to ease costs, further develop trade, but increasingly, this will now be a very important corridor for military mobility ," Yzeiri said.

Other participants in the panel also appreciated the importance of Corridor VIII and the economic opportunities that its finalization will create.
