Around 9.6 million nights of stay in 2025/ Hotels dominate, alternative accommodation and camping "explode"

The year 2025 closes with 9.67 million nights of stays in accommodation structures. This is an increase of almost 30% compared to the previous year. Of the 2.22 million additional nights of stays that were generated in one year, about 1.9 million come from foreigners. In other words, almost the entire expansion of the market relies on foreigners. Their weight in total rises to approximately 74% of nights of stays, while residents drop relatively to about a quarter of the market.
This means that 2025 is not simply a year of growth, but also a year of deepening dependence on the international market.
Seasonality remains pronounced, even strengthened. August reaches 2.26 million nights of stay, July 1.84 million and June 1.2 million. Three months concentrate more than half of the annual volume. January and February remain much lower, around 230 thousand each. This shows that the expansion has not come from the extension of the season, but from the intensification of the summer peak.
If we look at the behavior of foreigners by type of accommodation, the picture becomes more interesting. In 2025, out of 7.13 million nights spent by non-residents, 6.48 million will be spent in hotels and similar structures. So about 91% of foreigners continue to stay in the traditional hotel model. However, the growth dynamics are not there.
Vacation rentals and other short-term structures (which include apartments, villas) are up 87.8% year-on-year. This is the fastest-growing segment in the entire market. Camping sites are also up over 40%, but from a small base.
So, 2025 confirms two parallel realities, the dominance of the hotel and the explosion of alternative accommodation. Hotels maintain the absolute weight, but relative growth is shifting towards more flexible and less traditional forms.
Compared to 2019, the change is even more clear. Foreign overnight stays have more than tripled. But holiday accommodation and camping have grown by over 250%, faster than hotels. This means that after the pandemic we are not just recovering, but transforming the stay pattern.
