What is the "Blue Card" for foreigners who want work? - Application through e-Albania also for seasonal workers
The government has proposed facilities for foreigners who want to work in Albania. The document provides for the granting of the Blue Card to professionals, but benefits are foreseen for every category, including students. Qualified foreign workers who want to work in Albania will be provided with a unique permit called the Blue Card.
This is foreseen in the draft submitted to the Assembly, which stipulates that in order to benefit from it, employees must have an employment contract that requires high skills. The draft law also provides for facilities for foreigners who do not have a specific profession, but wish to be employed. There will also be a unique permit for seasonal and domestic workers.
The application is required to be made only online through the e-Albania portal. Another change is the increase in the period of exemption from penalties for those who exceed the period of stay and the facilitation of procedures for short-term and transit visas.
Students and scientific researchers will have a simpler opportunity to stay in Albania. The argument for this initiative is the alignment with European legislation, but it also comes at a time when there is an increase in demand for labor, especially in the tourism and services sectors.
But what experts and businesses have found in the last 2 years is that in most cases, even those foreigners who have chosen Albania to work, have left for European countries after just a few months.
Albania has been used as a springboard to flee to the EU, or they have returned to their country of origin. Data from the National Employment Agency shows that over 13 thousand foreign citizens are employed in our country.
