Wind energy - ERE initiates procedures for licensing a company, the first for
The Energy Regulatory Authority has decided for the first time this year to launch procedures for licensing a company for the production of electricity from wind plants. The decision was made for the company "SunPro", for a plant with a production capacity of 3 MW, located in Tragjas, Orikum Administrative Unit.

This step comes at a time when wind energy continues to remain an untapped potential. Data for 2024 show that there are two projects with a total installed capacity of 148.5 MW that have received a preliminary opinion to connect to the transmission system. The first project is “Park Eolik Pogradec” with a capacity of 120 MW, while the other, “Park Eolik Drin-2”, is expected to have an installed capacity of 28.5 MW. However, this is not the first time that such projects have received preliminary approvals. In previous years, a number of similar initiatives have passed the first stages of evaluation, but to date none of them has entered the production phase.

According to official data from the ERE, there are currently only two companies in Albania that hold a license for wind energy production, but even these have not yet started construction of the relevant plants.

Energy experts consider wind as an important source of renewable energy, with high potential to contribute to energy security and reduce dependence on hydropower sources. Meanwhile, the Energy Regulatory Authority emphasizes that the development of wind energy, but also of other sources such as photovoltaics and small hydropower plants, requires better integration into the transmission network and increased investments in the country's electricity infrastructure.
