King Charles' wealth equals Sunak's - Increases by £30m, to a total of £640m
Prince Charles' personal wealth has seen a significant increase, rising by £30 million to £640 million over the past year. His fortune now matches the combined wealth of former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife, Akshata Murty, according to The Sunday Times Rich List.
This increase in wealth places the monarch in 238th place on the list of the UK's 350 richest individuals and families, a notable increase from his position of 258th in 2024. The Rich List's calculations show that the King's fortune now exceeds that of David and Victoria Beckham, estimated at £500 million, by £140 million.
The 76-year-old monarch's increased wealth is largely attributed to an investment portfolio inherited from his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II. That portfolio includes private properties in Norfolk and Aberdeenshire, both formerly owned by the Queen, which now contribute to the King's considerable financial holdings.
The Sunday Times only includes personal assets when estimating the sovereign's wealth. This does not include the Crown Estate, which saw huge profits from wind farm deals, the Duchy of Lancaster's wealth, or the Crown Jewels, which are held in trust by the King for the nation.
The late Queen's fortune was said to be £370 million in 2022, with Charles now estimated to be worth £270 million more than his mother, rising from £610 million to £640 million by 2025.
The personal fortune of Rishi Sunak and his wife fell by £11m from £651m to £640m. Since leaving Downing Street, the former prime minister has taken up a part-time role at Stanford University and registered with the Washington Speakers Bureau, and the couple have set up a charity in the UK.
As Prince of Wales, Charles received a private income of around £23 million a year from the Duchy of Cornwall. This was used partly for unofficial expenses for himself and his family and partly for the official costs of his personal staff, office and official residences.
