KESH returns to energy purchases - Opens procedure for 33,600 mWh, 38 million euros have been spent so far
The Albanian Power Corporation has returned to energy purchases, after more than 2 months of not conducting any tendering procedures. This department seeks to secure 33,600 mWh of energy, necessary to cover consumer needs during the period 2-8 June. The results of the procedure have not been published yet, but referring to prices on the Albanian Electricity Exchange, they are around 70 euros/mWh.
The last procedure for purchasing energy from KESH took place in mid-March. Meanwhile, the receipts from the tenders held in the first 3 months of the year are estimated at around 38 million euros. According to data published by the Albanian Power Corporation, a total of around 268 thousand mWh of energy were purchased, at an average price of 136 euros/mWh. In total, 10 tenders for the provision of energy were held during the 3 months.
This situation is different from last year, as no procedure for purchasing energy was carried out until June, as the needs were met by the production of the Drini Cascade hydropower plants. According to calculations, throughout 2024, the bill for purchasing energy amounted to about 70 million euros.
These data once again highlight our country's dependence on weather conditions in terms of generating electricity. This, considering that around 94% of it is produced from hydropower sources, while only 6% comes from photovoltaic plants.
