Exports of medicinal plants, at risk! - Requests to the government: 10% VAT refund, as much as Trump's tariff
The Albanian Medicinal and Aromatic Plant Industry, in a statement to the media regarding the imposition of a 10% tariff by US President Donald Trump on Albanian exports to the United States of America, has proposed a plan of measures to normalize the situation.
The support package that IBMA is requesting for farmers includes full VAT reimbursement at the rate of 10% for all farmers in this sector, compensation for losses from the depreciation of the euro/dollar exchange rate, through a stabilized mechanism, tax deductions for exporting companies that respect high quality standards, the abolition of the tax on salaries up to 80,000 lek for seasonal workers, as well as a number of other points aimed at easing the burden on domestic producers.
In its statement, IBMA emphasizes that it remains committed to maintaining and strengthening positive economic relations with the US, expressing readiness for constructive cooperation from all parties to find long-term and sustainable solutions.
The imposition of a 10% tariff on Albanian exports translates into increased costs for exporting companies, which could directly affect the final price of products in the US market, making them less competitive.
As a result, a decrease in demand for Albanian products, a decrease in export volumes, and significant losses for thousands of farmers and small businesses in rural areas are expected.
Meanwhile, companies that have invested in technology and quality to meet American standards now face a climate of financial uncertainty, which could significantly slow the development of the sector.
