Minister Vengu: This year the defense budget reaches 2.12% of GDP
During a press conference, Defense Minister Pirro Vengu stated that "the 2026 budget is not a routine budget, it is a mechanism to strengthen the army. This year we reach the level of 2.12% of GDP. The first pillar of the articulation of this budget summary is the human capital of our army. For this reason, we will achieve an increase in salaries by reaching the NATO average. The increase will be up to 60–70%. In parallel with this effort, we aim to increase active capacities by 30%, where last year alone 320 new recruits were included in the armed forces."
