What are the expectations of exporters for the EU? - Investment Council: 7 out

Albanian business has positive expectations from the National Reform Agenda and the European Union accession process, but the level of information remains low. These are the main findings of the Investment Council survey, which analyzes companies' perceptions of reforms and European integration.

According to the survey, only 33 percent of the companies surveyed state that they have sufficient information, very much or somewhat, about the National Reform Agenda. Businesses that are informed state that its implementation in the next three years is expected to bring more comprehensive consultation and direct benefits to the private sector. However, the adoption of laws without consultation remains the main perceived challenge in implementing the reforms.

Regarding membership in the European Union, about 7 out of 10 companies assess this process as positive or very positive. The most optimistic are exporters, businesses with a turnover of over 10 million euros, as well as the construction, agriculture and processing industry sectors.

Businesses expect membership to bring improved standards and quality, increased fair competition and easier access to European Union markets. On the other hand, bureaucracy and administrative procedures, taxes and fiscal legislation, as well as production standards, are perceived as areas where adaptation will be more difficult.

Regarding exports, only 3 in 10 businesses expect increased export opportunities from EU membership, with industry, trade and agriculture appearing more optimistic.

Meanwhile, nearly 50 percent of businesses state that they need more information on integration and its impact on their activity. The main sources of information remain the internet and traditional media, while a more active role is expected from state institutions and European Union projects.

The survey shows that for half of businesses, EU membership is seen as a real opportunity for growth and expansion of activity, especially in the processing industry, agriculture, forestry, fishing, as well as in the transport and warehousing sector.
