Business optimistic about the EU, but seeks information - Survey/ Lack of transparency, an obstacle to entrepreneurship preparation

Businesses in Albania see the process of integration into the European Union as a development opportunity, but face a significant lack of information and uncertainty in the implementation of reforms. This is according to the latest survey by the Investment Council, focused on the perception of businesses on European integration.
According to the data, businesses report a significant lack of information on the National Reform Agenda and the EU integration process itself. Information is mainly provided by the internet and traditional media, while more transparency, direct communication and concrete guidance are expected from state institutions and European Union projects. This lack of information directly affects the ability of businesses to plan development and benefit from reforms.
However, expectations remain positive. Businesses expect to benefit from a more consolidated reform process, through inclusive consultation in policymaking, direct benefits for the private sector, and accelerated implementation of reforms, which would bring greater efficiency and legal certainty.
The sectors most optimistic about integration are industry, trade, agriculture and transport. At the company level, EU integration is expected to bring improved standards and quality, increased fair competition and easier access to European markets. However, only 3 out of 10 companies expect an immediate increase in export opportunities, while around one in two businesses foresee an expansion of activity after integration.
On the other hand, challenges remain numerous. Businesses highlight the adoption of laws without consultation, bureaucracy and administrative procedures, taxes and fiscal legislation, as well as production standards that require adaptation to European markets. These barriers are closely linked to the lack of information and the perception of uncertainty regarding reforms.
The survey shows that for Albanian business, EU integration remains a process with high potential, but that requires greater transparency, communication and involvement to translate into concrete economic development.
