How will the Food Authority be dissolved? - Decision on suspension awaited/

"The activities of the AKU must be suspended immediately. The AKU is the biggest concern, instead of being the most important partner, it is the biggest concern of all entrepreneurs in the agricultural sector, but it is also a concern for all restaurants and all cafes and all points of sale because I said it once again, it does more harm than good. So the AKU minister must issue an order to suspend the AKU, completely."

Prime Minister Edi Rama announced the suspension of the National Food Authority a day ago, according to which the suspension of the activity of this institution is an emergency.

But how will the dissolution of this institution be carried out?

The government will undertake the establishment of a special commission to analyze all the human resources of the NFA, and the process of merging those various inspectorates that has already been established by law will go through a process of selecting human resources that will deal with inspections.

The Agricultural University of Tirana will be invited to participate in the commission to conduct a serious assessment of the human resources of the NQA. After this process, it is expected that a new, more functional institution will be created for this purpose.

The National Food Authority of Albania was established in 2008 by decision of the Council of Ministers, as a public institution responsible for the supervision and control of food safety throughout the food chain from farm to fork.

The legal basis for the creation of this institution is in accordance with European Union standards in the field of food safety.

The mission of the AKU has been to protect the health of the Albanian consumer by guaranteeing the safety and quality of foods consumed in the country.

But despite having operated for so many years, due to a lack of trained human resources, politicization, and the methodology used, the work of this institution has faltered and the problems identified with food safety have been high.
