Tirana Bypass, tenders for construction open - Fund limit 6 billion lekë, the segment will connect two highways without entering Tirana
With a limited fund of 6 billion lek, the Albanian Road Authority has opened 2 tenders for the construction of the Tirana bypass. The contracts include the construction of the Kashar - Vaqarr Interchange Phase I and II road, part of one of the most important road projects in the country. This is because the Tirana Bypass aims to directly connect the Durrës - Tirana highway with the Tirana - Elbasan highway, avoiding the entrance to the capital.
With a length of 21.6 kilometers, this road will cross the southern, southwestern and western parts of Tirana, starting near the City Park Shopping Center in Kashar and ending in Mullet, at the intersection with the Tirana-Elbasan highway. The route will have two lanes in each direction, a width of 10.5 meters and will allow speeds of up to 120 km/h.
The road will pass through a plain and hilly terrain, including deep technical interventions such as double bridges over the Erzen River, construction of a new tunnel in Rrogozhina, and the establishment of three junctions. One of them is with the existing Tirana–Durres road (Plepa), where an entry-exit junction for the surrounding areas is foreseen. The other two connect to the Kashar–Rrogozhina highway and the Tirana–Elbasan highway.
According to the tender documents, the road route crosses agricultural areas, including the villages of Allgjatë, Picallë and Stërmas.
Beyond the impact on traffic, the bypass is also expected to bring environmental and urban benefits. By avoiding the passage of heavy traffic through Tirana, pollution, internal traffic, and accidents on the capital's urban roads are expected to be significantly reduced.
The Tirana Bypass is considered one of the most strategic projects for improving intercity traffic in the country.
