"BSH fulfilled the main ambition of integration" - Ambassador Gonzato meets with Governor Sejko: Assesses SEPA Membership
The Governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko held a meeting at the Bank of Albania with the Ambassador of the Delegation of the European Union to Albania, Silvio Gonzato. In this meeting, Governor Sejko expressed his gratitude to Ambassador Gonzato for opening the negotiations with the EU for the first group chapter, meanwhile he thanked him for the technical assistance that the EU has given to strengthen the capacities of the Bank of Albania through IPA funds and Twinning programs, in the areas of important aspects of central banking such as macroeconomic and financial stability, auditing, supervision and payment systems, in support of its preparations for membership in the European Banking System Central and then in the Eurosystem.
On the other hand, Ambassador Gonzato congratulated Governor Sejko for accepting Albania in the SEPA geographical area under the leadership and coordination of the Bank of Albania, as part of the regional project "For the modernization of payment systems in the countries of the Western Balkans". He emphasized that with this membership, the Bank of Albania successfully fulfills one of its main ambitions within the European integration process.
According to the Governor, the economic panorama in Albania, despite the challenging situations, the progress in the country appears stable and with quite good indicators. While he emphasized that the focus of economic policies during this period has been oriented towards maintaining price stability, adapting the stance of monetary policy, as a prerequisite for maintaining the financial stability of our country and guaranteeing price stability in the country.
While Ambassador Gonzato appreciated the work done mainly for Chapter 4 "Free Movement of Capital" and Chapter 17 "Economic and Monetary Policy", which are managed by the Bank of Albania, he confirmed the will to further increase the cooperation and support of the EU for the Bank of Albania through technical assistance in various areas of central banking and undertaking joint projects in the future.
