Beja meets British Ambassador Abbott: Customs cooperation and border security are strengthened

The Director General of Customs, Besmir Beja, hosted today a meeting with the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Albania, Nicholas Abbott, where the focus was on further strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of customs and border security.
During the conversation, Director Beja appreciated the continued support that the United Kingdom has provided to the Albanian Customs Administration, emphasizing that, “partnership with British institutions has been essential in increasing our operational capacities and in modernizing control procedures.” He also underlined the importance of concrete cooperation with structures such as HM Revenue and Customs and the Home Office International Operations programs, particularly in terms of technology and information exchange.
For his part, Ambassador Abbott praised the progress made by Albanian Customs and expressed his readiness to further deepen this cooperation, stating that, “Albania remains an important partner for the United Kingdom in addressing common challenges, such as the fight against smuggling, illegal trafficking and strengthening border control.” He stressed the importance of continuing joint projects aimed at increasing security and facilitating legitimate trade.
Following the meeting, the interlocutors focused particularly on the concrete results of cooperation over the years, including the implementation of intelligent monitoring systems at border crossing points, as well as joint operations at the Port of Durres, which have significantly contributed to the prevention of illegal activities and increasing the effectiveness of controls.
The parties also discussed the need to intensify information exchange and the use of advanced technologies for risk analysis, in order to face new challenges related to security and international trade.
The meeting once again confirmed the high level of cooperation between Albanian and British institutions, as well as the joint commitment to take this partnership to an even more advanced stage, in the service of security, economic development and regional integration.
