Beja: Customs towards artificial intelligence, 112 measures against hydrocarbon entities

The customs administration is orienting its work towards the use of artificial intelligence and risk analysis to combat smuggling and illegal phenomena. This was stated by the Director General of Customs, Besmir Beja, emphasizing that the goal is to move from reactive controls to a predictive administration, based on data and best practices of the European Union.
According to him, digital transformation will enable more accurate analysis of customs declarations, trade behavior and logistics data, reducing unnecessary controls and increasing efficiency in collecting duties.
Meanwhile, Beja announced that during a joint action with the tax administration to control the trading of energy products, 58 entities were inspected throughout the country, of which 112 administrative measures were imposed.
The controls have been extended to several cities, including Tirana, Durrës, Fier and Vlora, where a number of violations have been identified. One of the main problems has been the lack of calibrated measuring equipment, as 43 of the controlled entities did not have them, making it difficult to accurately verify the volume of products.
Beja emphasized that the customs administration will continue to cooperate with relevant institutions to address these issues and strengthen control in the hydrocarbon market.
